Roland Bowen launched Pembrokeshire Cruising in 1994. His passion for sailing and teaching, patience and sense of humour is shared by his trusted team of RYA instructors, ensuring a successful and enjoyable experience for all. As an RYA Yachtmaster Examiner and Yachtmaster Instructor in sail and power, Roland is Director and Principal Instructor of Pembrokeshire Cruising.

Trevor Thompson - Cruising Instructor
Trevor started his maritime career in the Merchant Navy, followed by a degree in engineering. For the last twenty five years he has worked in education, training, and taught RYA diesel maintenance and navigation courses. He is an experienced Cruising Instructor working with Pembrokeshire Cruising and the Sea Cadets Offshore fleet which takes him to all parts of the UK and northern Europe. Trevor and his wife Dinah are co authors of the trusted Adriatic Pilot (Imrays) which is now in its 6th edition. His experience extends to Ireland, as well as the Mediterranean and European inland waterways.

David Hartshorn - Yachtmaster Instructor
Dave turned his passion for sailing into a second career, having initially worked as a police officer. He has been a Yachtmaster Instructor for sail here at Pembrokeshire Cruising since 2009. He has equal enthusiasm for both sail cruising and yacht racing. His favourite Adventure Cruise destination is the Isles of Scilly which combines exhilarating sailing with breathtaking scenery.
Dave founded "Operation Fitzroy" in 2007. This 5 day experience offers young people from inner city boroughs a chance to train as race crews. They then compete against adult crews from across the emergency service in an annual Offshore Yachting Championship in held on The South Coast.
Dave's favourite slice of cake is anything with chocolate in it and preferably on it.
Gerald Downs - Yachtmaster Instructor
Gerald has been Yachtmaster Instructor here at Pembrokeshire Cruising since 2007. When not instructing or skippering our Adventure Cruises he is a keen racer. Over his racing career he has taken part in the Fastnet races and the famous Cork Week Regatta. On terra firma he is a keen hill walker, instructor and Duke of Edinburgh Assessor.

Martin Smith - Yachtmaster Instructor
Martin is a Yachtmaster Instructor with over 30yrs of experience. His sailing adventures have seen him navigate not only UK waters but also France, Spain Portugal and Greece.
Martin's patience & enthusiasm as a valued instructor is evident both on the water and on terra firma when teaching the shorebased courses in the classroom. In his own time he loves nothing better than to be cruising in his own boat with his wife and family.

Jeff Adams - Cruising Instructor
Jeff started dinghy sailing on Suffolk's River Stour when he was 12, and has been messing around on boats ever since. Jeff achieved his Yachtmaster Offshore exam here at Pembrokeshire Cruising. The thrill of achieving this landmark Yachtmaster was recently surpassed by attaining Cruising Instructor status. Jeff now relishes being perched on the hallowed corner of the pushpit rail, introducing new starters to sailing, and putting our Day Skipper candidates through their paces.
On terra firma Jeff runs a software development team for a company that makes deep sea seismic survey kit.

Richie Denyer & Julie Berrows - Yachtmaster Cruising Instructors
Richie & Julie often deliver the Competent Crew & Day Skipper courses as a team. Richie has sailed his own yacht from Aberystwyth for many years and continues to sail at every opportunity. Julie has great knowledge of the Pembrokeshire waterways and has crewed and skippered the catamaran Sealegs. Sealegs operates from Neyland as a charity, introducing people with disabilities to sailing.
Richie's favourite slice of cake is a fruity square of simnel cake whilst Julie is more of a cup cake fan, any topping will do!
