Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Pembrokeshire Cruising is a leading RYA sailing school and has been training youngsters and adults alike for over twenty years. We have a small, dedicated team of instructors whom are driven by enthusiasm for sailing. We operate within strict safety guidelines, which are strictly adhered to by our instructors.

Sailing offers a unique opportunity for youngsters to learn and then practice new skills in a different environment. Efficient and safe sailing is only achieved by teamwork. The yacht will be sailed entirely by the students, together with meal preparation, cleaning and maintenance. .

Gold Residential

Duration: 5 Days

The Duke of Edinburgh Residential course is designed for both newcomers and those who have sailed previously. We deliver the fundamental skills and knowledge for personal safety, seamanship and helmsmanship in a fun filled environment. Our ratio of 1 instructor to 5 students ensures plenty of attention to the development of individual students. This practical course is spent on board one of our modern yachts where you will not only complete the requirements for the Gold Residential Award but also the RYA Competent Crew certificate. By the end of the course you will be a confident and capable crew member.

Gold Expedition

Duration: 9 Days

The expedition practice and qualifying will take place in the Milford haven Waterway, St Brides Bay and surrounding Islands.

We will begin with sail training and familiarisation. The first five days will include RYA Competent Crew training. The team will then be given the task of planning a coastal passage taking into account of wind and tide, together with consideration of the strengths and limitations of the yacht and crew.

The passage plan will be scrutinised by our instructor prior to the undertaking, but by this time the team will have sufficient knowledge to make sound decisions.

The plan will be required to cover all aspects of the passage including: preparation of the yacht and victuals, organising a watch system, creating concise navigation/pilotage notes, upkeep of ships log, together with safe, efficient sailing to the chosen destination.

Consideration must also be made for our return trip!
